Maintaining Dielectric Integrity

The dielectric fluid (oil or deionized water) acts as both an insulator and a coolant.

  • Stable Conductivity: As EDM erodes the workpiece, millions of micro-metallic particles are suspended in the fluid. Our sintered powder filters provide an absolute micron rating (typically 1μm to 5μm), ensuring the fluid’s dielectric strength remains constant for predictable sparking.
  • Superior Surface Finish: By removing even the smallest carbon and metal fines, CMI filters eliminate the risk of "arcing" or "pitting," allowing you to achieve mirror-like surface finishes (Ra < 0.2μm).

High-Pressure Flushing Performance

  • Pressure Surge Resistance: Unlike pleated paper filters that can "balloon" or bypass under pressure spikes, the rigid structure of sintered metal ensures a consistent flow rate and filtration efficiency, even during aggressive flushing cycles.
  • Zero Fiber Shedding: Sintered metal is a solid, fused structure with no risk of fiber release that could clog sensitive spray nozzles in Wire EDM systems.

Sustainability & Cost Recovery

  • Backwashable & Reusable: CMI filters are designed for long-term use. When pressure differential increases, they can be cleaned via ultrasonic baths or backpulsing, reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Valuable Metal Recovery: In aerospace and medical applications, EDM processes materials such as Titanium, Inconel, and Tungsten Carbide. Sintered metal filters enable recovery and reuse of these high-value fines.

Compatibility with Synthetic Dielectric Oils

  • Chemical Inertness: 316L stainless steel and nickel-alloy filters are fully compatible with synthetic dielectric oils, avoiding degradation issues associated with bonded paper filters.
