Self Cleaning Filter – USCF Series

Automatic Backwash Filter for Process Water & Industrial Applications

The CMI USCF Series Self Cleaning Filter is designed as a cost-effective alternative to more expensive automatic filtration systems, providing continuous filtration, low maintenance, and reliable performance for water and industrial liquid applications.

This automatic backwash filter is suitable for process water, cooling water, sea water, recycle water, wastewater pretreatment, and selected high-pressure or high-temperature applications.

The USCF system is equipped with stainless steel wedge-wire screens, a PLC controller, a differential pressure switch, and a high-efficiency flush valve. For larger flow requirements, multiple units can be installed in parallel.

Filter bodies are available in SS304, SS316, or carbon steel with ETFE coating, ensuring durability in demanding industrial environments.

With a 100 μm screen, clean filter pressure drop is typically less than 1 psi at rated flow.

Key Features

  • Cost-effective automatic filtration solution for water and low-viscosity liquids
  • Continuous filtration during cleaning with no interruption to flow
  • Fully automatic operation with minimal manual intervention
  • Low clean pressure drop (<1 psi at rated flow with 100 μm screen)
  • Modular and scalable design for single-unit or parallel installation

Working Principle

The USCF self-cleaning filter consists of a heavy-duty filter vessel, two filtration stages, a flush valve, a differential pressure switch, and a PLC controller.

Filtration Process

  1. Unfiltered liquid enters the vessel and first passes through the coarse screen, where larger particles are removed.
  2. The liquid then flows through the fine screen, where smaller contaminants are retained down to the selected filtration rating.
  3. Clean liquid exits through the outlet with minimal pressure drop.

Automatic Cleaning Cycle

As contaminants accumulate on the fine screen, the differential pressure increases across the filter element.

  • At approximately 7 psi (recommended setting), the differential pressure switch sends a signal to the PLC controller
  • The PLC opens the flush valve automatically
  • Reverse flow is generated to remove contaminants from the fine screen surface
  • Captured solids are discharged through the flush valve within seconds

The cleaning cycle is completed in less than 12 seconds, while filtration continues without shutdown.

Applications

The USCF series is suitable for a wide range of industrial water and low-viscosity liquid filtration duties, including:

  • Industrial process water
  • Cooling tower water filtration
  • Sea water intake protection
  • Recycle water loops
  • Wastewater pretreatment
  • Steel mills and paper mills
  • Municipal and industrial water treatment
  • Irrigation systems
  • RO and UF pretreatment
