A micron rating is a measure of a filter's ability to trap and hold particles of a specific size. It is one of the most important specifications when selecting a filtration solution for your application. The micron rating indicates the size of particles (measured in micrometers) that a filter can effectively capture. One micron is equal to one-millionth of a meter (0.000001 meter) or approximately 1/25,000 of an inch. For perspective, a human hair is typically 50-70 microns in diameter, while bacteria range from 0.2 to 2 microns.
